This is it! A new year, a new day, a new opportunity!
How are you feeling? I am going to guess you are tired. But that’s okay! We all need to start somewhere. I am a big believer in setting an intention for the day. Really what I am doing is setting a goal for the day and then actively making choices that will support my efforts in achieving my end goal.
For example, every morning I do a whole body yoga workout routine. I started this discipline after getting tendonitis in my right foot. Due to my injury, I had to postpone my morning runs. Luckily, I came across this workout and loved it. I am happy to report my foot has since healed, but I have kept my yoga practice. It not only is a great physical workout, but it has helped me so much mentally. When I do it I feel less anxious and better prepared to take on my day. Movement medicine – I highly recommend you look into it. To make this workout happen in the first place, I need to be intentional. The night before I put out my workout clothes. By having my gear ready I am removing a possible obstacle for myself and therefore making the chances of my success more likely. Next, I set my alarm. Seems pretty basic, but you’d be surprised how many people forget to do this. And when my alarm goes off I never and I repeat, never hit snooze. As soon as you hit snooze you are giving yourself the opportunity to back out. Listen! If you want to be intentional don’t give yourself road blocks. We’ve all heard the phrase, “work smarter, not harder!” Keep this in mind as you work towards your goals. Once out of bed, I grab my items and hit the mat. When I actively do this I mentally and physically start my day with a win. Positive endorphins fill my lungs and I am ready to start my day.
This concept can be applied in all areas of our life. Life doesn’t just happen to you. You can create the life you want. Believe it or not, you are not a victim. Are there things that are beyond your control? Yes. But your response to life plays a major role in how you will interpret it. You are shaping your experience – your life.
As we start this new year I hope you feel empowered. Empowered to be you! Empowered to make good choices for you! Life, as we know, is short. Choose to fight for you and the future you envision for yourself. You can do it!
