Every Day Is A Gift!

Happy Presidents’ Day! I let the kids sleep in this morning and luckily they slept in for an additional hour! This gave me time to set-up a breakfast tea party!

What I’ve learned since having two kids is that you don’t rush the days when you’re all home together – holidays and snow days specifically. I also consider every day as a gift. I want to celebrate each and everyone to the fullest because tomorrow is not guaranteed. Since having my children, I’ve learned there is beauty in the normal, daily life. You don’t have to go anywhere, spend any extra money, or produce an elaborate moment to see the pricelessness that is your life.

When I was younger, I always had this itch to go here, do this, try this. I had an insecurity of not being or doing enough. Today I know I am enough. I am enough by simply being me. I don’t have to prove myself to anyone. You want to know something else? You are enough too! By simply being you!

When we display a spirit of gratefulness, embracing who we are and the ones around us, we find our happiness. We find the reason to smile and celebrate NOW!

At our tea party we had chocolate milk, heart shaped pb&j sandwiches, sliced apple, and sliced mozzarella cheese. Nothing about our menu items were exciting or difficult to produce, but to my kids they were amazing. Kenton loved dumping his marshmallow in his “tea” and said eating now was easier since his front tooth had fallen out the day before. Ruby ate most of the cheese as she giggled with excitement. Towards the end of our dining experience, Ruby spilled her drink all down the front of her white robe. “Oops!” She said as Kenton ran to get a towel. “It’s okay. Don’t worry. We can clean it up,” I said. I could see relief cross over my son’s face. He was worried my reaction would be anger. This is when the thought crossed my mind, “You set the tone for how this is going to go Joy.” What was I saying to myself? I had a choice. I had a choice in not only my response, but in my perspective. “After we get done eating we’ll just throw our robes in the washer machine.” And this is exactly what we did. We continued to eat and chat. When we were done we threw the robes in the machine and moved on to spa time.

Really “spa time” is my way of giving my kids a bath now rather than later in the evening. It’s all about strategy people… “work smarter, not harder!” We turned on music, lit a candle, and dumped in a bunch of little plastic toy animals. The kids loved it! We also dropped in a bath bomb because Kenton is obsessed with them. This one specifically was special as the prize in the middle turned out to be a little green light.

Once done, we ate our lunches before putting Ruby down for her nap. Lately her nap time has been hit or miss, but today she slumbered. This gave me time to write while I let Kenton watch his favorite thing – YouTube video gamers. Don’t ask me what the appeal is. All I know is that I limit his viewing time as I secretly believe brain cells diminish the longer you watch it.

Once again, Happy Presidents’ Day! I hope you celebrate today regardless of what your day looks like because you are enough and today is enough too!
