Find your center. Dig deep. And remain true to you. This morning, Ruby and I did a stretchy, feel-good workout on our patio outside. We knew by the afternoon the heat would hit into the 80’s, making us wonder if we were still in August. The cool morning air was perfect for our time together. We finished our activity on the mats with a wiggle dance. Check out our video for some of our moves!
After that, we made creepy black spiders using only four pipe cleaners. Ruby loved watching me turn the cleaners into a recognizable shape. “Spider,” she said with excitement. Below is how we did it.

Her potty training is still a work in progress. I have resisted the urge to put her diaper on over the past few days, but it is challenging. Especially when we need to be at places by a specific time. Waiting for her to “go” has reminded me how important patience is. I can tell she is getting tired of me asking her to use the potty, but if a few hours pass without going, I have to ask. Sometimes I think she thinks I am punishing her when I ask her to use her potty. But I am simply trying to prevent an accident. Another bad habit she is creating is holding herself. Although I admire her determination to withstand the urge to go, I know this will only hurt her in the long run. I can tell she doesn’t want to pull herself away from more “fun” activities, but what she doesn’t realize is that she won’t be able to participate in the fun if she has an accident. With that being said, Ruby had a successful day. We made sure to use the potty every time before we left the house and once arriving at our next destination.
After our lunch the heat outside began to rise. The sky was a beautiful blue color with hardly any clouds in site. We made our way to the beach at a lake near our home. With shovel in hand, Ruby scooped up the sand, chased after seagulls, and collected rocks. If you have followed my social media for very long you will know I love the beach – the sun, the sand, and the water. “Life is better at the beach.” I couldn’t agree more with this saying. My family and I live in Ohio, so we do not have the privilege of “beach life” near the ocean, but we do have a great lake near us where we explore, paddleboard, and play. When I was a young girl, I also grew up near a lake. I have so many wonderful memories of that lake. Today I am grateful to create my own with my children.

After cleaning off the sand on our feet and packing up our car, we made our way to pick-up my son, Kenton from school. I always love hearing his stories from school. Most of them involve his adventures in the gaga ball pit. Once home, we decided to make a sweet snack together, apple salsa. This was our first time trying this recipe and Kenton’s first-time having pomegranate. We began by gathering our ingredients, chopping our apple, preparing our pomegranate, squeezing our lemon, drizzling in the honey, and sprinkling our cinnamon in a mixing bowl. After mixing our salsa, I had Kenton dip in a chocolate graham cracker to add an additional crunch. The salsa was a burst of bright flavors. The honey and cinnamon paired perfectly. This salsa would go well with yogurt or on top of waffles.
