“November is the month of transformation- a gentle pause before winter’s hush.” Unknown

This November has truly been transformational for me. On the 6th, I passed my one-month work mark. I inputted and processed more information than I thought I could handle. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and humbled myself enough to ask insightful questions. I whispered words of encouragement to myself before walking into situations I was unfamiliar with. I repeated to myself the encouragement from people who care and believe in me: “I promise, in a few weeks or a month you won’t recognize yourself.”

As I reflect on this November, a phrase or perhaps a mindset keeps rising to the surface: Get comfortable with the uncomfortable. What is the significance of this, and how does it apply here? The significance is that being uncomfortable is not a bad thing. Being uncomfortable shows us how and where we need to grow… transform. Change is not usually born from a comfortable state; it often begins with the recognition that something needs to become different than what it currently is. The discomfort I experienced was what I needed in order to move beyond my current state. The uncomfortability became my guide toward growth- my companion toward change. This sometimes prickly friend showed me where I stood. Now, I could have stopped and said, “Wait a minute! This is too uncomfortable for me!” and walked away. But instead, I chose to dive in even deeper, getting even closer to the very thing that was causing my discomfort. When I leaned in and embraced it- accepting it for what it was- my focus cleared, and I could see better. I found the pieces, the people, and the purpose I needed.

Nothing is completed in a day. Nothing is ever done changing if it is becoming something of significance. And the same holds true for you and me. If we can accept this thought today, it opens immeasurable possibilities for us. We are no longer afraid to be uncomfortable; in fact, the more okay with it you become, the more you’ll seek out the uncomfortable. You’ll do more than others. And you’ll realize your amazing strength. You’ll be transformed into the person you never thought you could be.
Today, as I look at the faces close to me, I see not only my transformation this November, but theirs as well. As we challenge ourselves to evolve, we not only demonstrate a humble spirit- we encourage others to do the same. We create a safe place for us all. And because of this, we grow together. This is what I am most grateful for this Thanksgiving: the discomfort, the determination, the growth, and the people around me who gave me permission to struggle toward success.
